Shopping for a 10kW+ solar generator?
You’ve come to the right place.
A 10kW or more solar generator is a great choice if you want to power your entire home or run several large appliances.
The problem is that such a solar generator is hard to find. Most solar generators top out at 3,000W to 5000W.
To get 10,000W of AC power, you typically have to install a permanent solar system with a powerful 10kW inverter.
Fortunately, bigger and more powerful solar generators are starting to hit the market. These days, you can even get a solar generator capable of powering a big portion of your home or your entire home.

1. Our Top Pick: Hysolis Apollo 5K
The Hysolis Apollo 5K is the best solar generator that can provide more than 10000W of solar power. The main reason I love it is its versatility. You can expand both capacity and AC output to fit your power needs.
Pros
Cons
Our Review
The Hysolis Apollo 5K is one of the most versatile solar generators. With most other solar generators, you can expand capacity.
With the Apollo 5K, you can also expand power output.
The base version comes with a 5,376Wh LiFePO4 battery. That’s already plenty of capacity. You can link an additional eight batteries to the solar generator for a max capacity of 48.4kWh.
Hysolis also lets you connect up to nine Apollo 5K power units together to expand both capacity and output.
A single unit has a 3kW continuous output pure sine wave inverter. Link 9 of them and you can get up to 27kW of AC power, enough to run an entire home.
And since each unit accepts up to nine batteries, you could build a massive system with a capacity of 435.6kWh.
Of course, you don't have to go that big. You can link just 4 Apollo 5K units to get 12kW power output and 21.5kWh capacity (5,376Wh * 4).
240V Power Option
The Apollo 5K produces 120V AC power. If you want to run 240V appliances, you can link two Apollo 5K units together to get split phase 240V 6000W AC power.
Multiple Outlets
Similar to most high-capacity and output solar generators, you can have an electrician connect the Apollo 5K to your home grid to provide off-grid or backup power to your home.
Alternatively, you can plug appliances and electronics directly into the solar generator. Outlets include six 120V/15A household style sockets, a 120V/30A outlet, one 12V/30A RV plug, three 12V DC ports, a wireless charging pad and four USB ports.
Super Fast Charging
To make sure the large battery fills up quickly, the Hysolis Apollo 5K offers fast charging via AC or solar.
The AC charger puts in 3000W of power, enough to recharge the Apollo 5K in about two hours. Max solar input is 4000W, which ensures you can recharge the Apollo 5K in just a few hours.
For even faster charging, the Apollo 5K has dual AC + Solar charging with a max input of 6000W. This one is handy when you expand your system. You can add more batteries and still charge them to 100% in under a day.
Issues & Limitations
Pricey
As you would expect from a solar generator as big as this one, the Apollo 5K is not cheap. The base model without any expansion costs almost $5,000.
To get to at least 10kW output, you’ll need four Apollo units.
Warranty Could Be Longer
For the amount of money you’ll be spending, I think the Apollo 5K should come with a longer warranty than the 2 years (3 years for battery) warranty Hysolis offers.
Most large solar generators have a 4-5 year warranty.
2. Best 240V Split Phase Solar Generator: Bluetti AC500 + B300S
If you are shopping for a solar generator that can deliver 10kW 240V AC power, I recommend the Bluetti AC500 + B300S solar generator kit.
It’s a 5000W solar generator that doubles output to 10000W when you set it up as a split phase system.
Pros
Cons
Our Review
If you need to run one or several large 240V appliances, the Bluetti AC500 + B300S is the best solar generator kit.
With 10kW, 240V power output, it can power things like HVAC, water heaters, garage heaters, and large power tools.
To get the 10kW output, you need to buy two sets of the AC500 + B300S kit. You then link the two AC500 power units using the Bluetti P030A fusion box.
You can either plug the appliance directly into the 240V/30A outlet on the fusion box or wire the outlet to a subpanel that feeds one or more 240V appliances.
Expandable Capacity
The Bluetti AC500A + B300S solar generator has a modular design where the power module and the battery pack are separate.
This makes it easy to remove or add batteries depending on your needs. The base model includes one B300S LiFePO4 battery pack with a capacity of 3,072Wh.
You can add up to 5 more B300S modules for a total capacity of 18.4kWh.
In a split phase setup, you’ll have at least two B300S battery packs with a combined capacity of 6144Wh. You can expand each set to 18.4kWh for a total possible capacity of 36.8kWh.
So if you need to power 240V appliances that consume a lot of power, you can greatly expand capacity to ensure the solar generators are able to keep up.
Multiple Outlets
The AC500 power module has 16 outlets for all kinds of electronics, devices and appliances.
They include three regular 120V/20A outlets plus three high-power AC outlets (a 30A RV plug, a NEMA L14-30 30A outlet, and a NEMA14-50 50A outlet).
DC outlets include a 12V/30A RV port, a 24V/10A car port, and an additional 12V/10A car outlet on the B300S battery module.
For gadgets and devices, there are two 15W wireless charging pads, two 100W USB-C ports and four USB-A ports. The battery module also has an additional 100W USB-C port and a USB-A outlet.
Fast Charging
The Bluetti AC500 + B300S is one of the fastest charging solar generators in the market in its size category.
It comes with a powerful 4500W AC charger that recharges the 3kWh battery in about an hour. Max solar input is 3000W, which recharges the B300S in 1.5-3 hours.
Similar to most of their other solar generators, Bluetti allows super fast dual AC + solar charging. You’ll especially appreciate this option when you add several batteries.
You can also charge the AC500 + B300S from a vehicle’s 12V/24V outlet, a lead acid battery, or a traditional gas generator.
Issues & Limitations
Limited Expansion
The 36.8kWh max capacity (in split phase mode) of the AC500 + B300S is probably plenty enough for most homes. But if you are running heavy duty 240V appliances, it may not be enough.
If you think you’ll need a lot more capacity, get the Hysolis Apollo 5K instead. In split phase mode with two Apollo units, you can expand capacity to a whooping 96.8kWh (nine 5376Wh batteries per unit).
3. Best Mobile 10kW+ Solar Generator: MS-425 Mobile Solar Generator
Mobile Solar is a California-based solar company that has come up with the brilliant idea of solar generator trailers.
These are massive solar generators on wheels, making it easy to get off-grid power wherever you are. Our favorite Mobile Solar product is the MS-425 solar generator with 16kW of output.
Pros
Cons
Our Review
The MS-425 mobile solar generator trailer is designed to be moved around with a vehicle. You can attach it to any truck that can tow at least 10,000lbs.
The trailer is a full solar generator complete with all components including;
The trailer design is great if you need lots of power on the go. They have smaller trailers that are great for camping and overlanding.
Larger trailers like the MS-425 are perfect for off-grid cabins, field work, construction sites, emergencies and home backup.
All the components, especially the batteries, are secured within the trailer to ensure safety when on the move.
Mobile Solar offers lots of additional extras that you can add to your trailer including remote monitoring, a backup gas generator, cold weather insulation, a hydrogen monitoring system and so on.
Issues & Limitations
Pricey
Large solar generators like the Hysolis Apollo 5K are already pretty expensive. A solar generator trailer is even pricier.
If you are on a budget, either check out Mobile Solar’s smaller trailers (like the MS-200 with 3.6kW output and 20kWh battery bank) or pick one of the other solar generators in this guide.
Uses Lead Acid Batteries
Lead-acid batteries are a lot cheaper, but they don't last as long as the lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries typically used in modern home backup solar generators.
Mobile Solar says their FLA (flooded lead acid) batteries last 2000 cycles at 80% DoD. In contrast, LiFePO4 batteries can last over 6,000 cycles at 80-90% DoD.
Why Get A 10kW+ Solar Generator?
There are two situations where you may need a high-output 10kW+ solar generator.
What To Consider When Buying A 10kW+ Solar Generator?
A 10,000+ watt solar generator is not cheap. So you need to make sure you are getting a good quality product and the best value for your money.
Here are the most important factors to consider.
1. Power Output
You are shopping for a 10kW solar generator, so make sure the one you pick can deliver 10kW or more of continuous AC power.
Don’t get confused by the peak or surge power. This is the max amount of power the solar generator can deliver for just a few milliseconds or seconds to allow an appliance to start up.
If you are shopping for a 240V solar generator, you can pick one with at least 5000W output at 120V. This will double to 10000W at 240V when you set up the split phase system.
2. Optional 240V Output
Do you want a 120V or 240V solar generator?
The best choice depends on what kind of appliances you want to run. For regular household appliances, a 120V solar generator is adequate.
But if you have one or more 240V appliances like a well pump or AC, get a 240V solar generator. There are two types of 240V solar generators.
See my reviews of the best 240V solar generators.
3. Expandable Capacity
If you’ll be drawing thousands of watts from a solar generator, you’ll need one with lots of capacity. Otherwise, the battery will drain in minutes.
And that’s why I highly recommend getting a solar generator with expandable capacity. You can add more batteries to achieve the capacity you need.
Check the maximum capacity allowed to ensure it’ll be enough for your needs.
4. Multiple Outlets & Home Integration
If you plan to connect the solar generator directly to your home grid, make sure it offers easy home integration.
The solar generator should have a 30 amp AC output that delivers power to a sub panel.
If you plan to plug appliances and other electronics directly into the solar generator, make sure it has several different outlets including AC, DC and USB.
Fortunately, most high-output and capacity solar generators offer both options. They have several outlets to directly run appliances, and they can also be integrated into a home grid.
5. Charging Performance
10kW+ solar generators tend to also have high capacity. This can be an issue when it comes to recharging the large battery or batteries.
If the solar generator charges slowly, it’ll take forever to recharge the batteries. This can be a big issue if you are off-grid. You need a solar generator that can recharge fully in less than a day so that you have enough power for the night.
When it comes to charging performance of a solar generator, the first thing to check is the AC input. The best solar generators come with powerful AC chargers that put in 3000W or more of power into the battery. That’s enough to charge a 3-10kWh battery in a few hours.
Next, check the max solar input. It should be at least 3000W to ensure you can charge multiple batteries before nightfall.
Finally, check if the solar generator has dual AC + solar charging. It’s a great option if you have a solar generator with several battery packs connected.
Installing A 10kW+ Solar System
You don't have many options to choose from when buying a 10kW+ solar generator. I could only find three good ones to review.
If neither of them meets your needs, consider installing a solar system instead.
The advantage of a solar system is that you can easily find a 10kW+ inverter to deliver the amount of power you need.
Some of the best 10kW+ inverters in the market include:
Note that you can also connect two smaller (like 5000W) inverters in parallel to achieve 10kW output. But this requires the expertise of an electrician to ensure proper syncing and balance between the inverters.
If you’d rather buy a complete kit with all the components you need including solar panels, batteries, and inverter, ShopSolarKits.com sells several 12000W+ complete solar kits.
