Kalisaya KP401

KaliPAK 401Wh Portable Solar Generator Review

The Kalisaya KP401 KaliPAK is a compact highly portable solar generator that provides enough power to charge small devices such as a smartphone or tablet as well as small appliances like a CPAP machine.

It has multiple input and output options to fit different situations. Unlike most solar generators, it comes with a solar panel for outdoor use.

It’s great for camping, and you can also use it as a backup to provide power for mobile devices and lighting in case of an emergency.

Best Features of the Kalisaya KP401 KaliPAK Portable Solar Generator

Enough Capacity for Devices and Small Appliances

Kalisaya KP401

The KaliPAK KP401 is not the most powerful portable solar generator. But for its size, it packs a lot of energy.

Most solar generators with 3 or 4 times the capacity are heavy and bulky. The KP401 is light and compact.

The energy capacity is enough for most people’s needs. It can charge most small devices including smartphones, iPads, laptops, tablets, drones, cameras and small music speakers.

You can also plug in a CPAP machine or mini-freezer using a DC to AC converter (there’s no AC outlet).

It’s great for outdoor adventures such as road trips, camping or just an afternoon at the beach.

You can also use it as a backup at home for essential devices in case of a power outage during an emergency.

Versatile Input and Output Options

There are three ways you can charge the KaliPAK KP401 solar generator.

If you are outdoors or there is no power, use the included 40W solar panel to charge the generator.

It’s not a very powerful solar panel, but it will do if there is strong sunlight. Charging time is 7-12 hours depending on how strong the sunshine is.

If you want to charge it faster, Kalisaya sells a daisy-chaining connector with an extra solar panel. This allows you to charge the generator from two solar panels at the same time.

Another way to charge the solar generator when you are outdoors is with your car’s cigarette lighter socket. Use the included car charger adaptor.

If you are at home, you can charge the battery by plugging the generator into a wall outlet using the included AC adapter.

As for charging and powering your devices, you have two options.

There are 4 USB ports to plug in your devices. You can charge multiple devices at ones which are especially handy if you are traveling with your family or a group of friends.

For lighting and other DC-powered devices, there are two 12V DC ports.

Unfortunately, there is no AC outlet. If you need to power something that requires AC power, the best workaround is to buy a DC to AC converter.

Easy Portability

Kalisaya KP401

The KaliPAK KP401 is easy to carry around.

It’s small and weighs just 13lbs. Using the ergonomic handle, you can easily carry it by hand without any problem.

If you are going on a hike, I recommend buying the KaliPAK weatherproof backpack. It fits the solar generator snugly and is waterproof. It’s also more comfortable to carry.

Remote System Monitoring Via App

The KaliPAK is equipped with a Bluetooth transmitter that ends battery and power details to your smartphone.

You’ll need to download the companion app to view the information. Using the app, you’ll be able to monitor how much power is remaining, how much power you are consuming and the solar generator status.

The app is a great way to track power consumption and ensure the battery lasts as long as possible.

Limitations of The Kalisaya KaliPAK Portable Solar Generator

No AC Outlet

It’s very unusual for a solar generator to lack an AC outlet.

If you need to power anything that uses an AC outlet you’ll need to buy a converter.

Low-wattage Solar Panel

Kalisaya KP401

The solar panel is not very powerful – it’s rated at just 40 watts. But considering the whole kit costs less than $300, this is understandable.

And anyway you can hook up you’re own more powerful solar panel or get the daisy-chaining connector and hook up two solar panels at once.

Conclusion

While not the most powerful portable solar charger, the KaliPAK KP401 is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts as well as a home backup.

The generator is versatile in terms of output and input, ensuring it serves you well in all kinds of situations.

It’s also one of the most affordable portable solar generators.
