The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 from Xantrax manages to hit on most of the major categories, making it one the best portable generators around.

While may of the generators in the portable category tend to be easy to transport, but short on power, the Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 avoids that pitfall. The outlets may be in short supply, but you’ll get plenty out of them. This generator is easy to use, is built with superb craftsmanship, and is rugged enough for everyday use if needed.

Advantages

There is a lot to like about the Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500, but I’ll break it down to the more notable features and advantages.

Easy Assembly

Some of you may have purchased a generator product before that you had to actually piece together yourself. This can lead to the generator being assembled incorrectly, and it’s also a hassle.

Worried about spending time connecting batteries, wires, and gauges? Don’t be. The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 arrives fully assembled, other than the handle. But that part is incredibly easy — simply slide the handle poles into place to pop them in, and you’re good to go.

The handle can be removed just as easy too, giving you more room if you’re hauling the Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 around in the car, or if you’re storing it away in the garage or basement.

Ample Power

The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 isn’t intended for whole home backup, but you still have plenty of power to keep numerous devices and appliances running for hours thanks to its 1350 W output power, 3000 W output surge capacity, and an amp hours rating of 51.

This translates into the following run times for common appliances:

  • Laptop – 25 watts for 27 hours, 30 minutes
  • Table Lamp – 40 watts for 16 hours
  • 20” LCD TV – 52 watts for 11 hours, 52 minutes
  • 18 cu. ft. Refrigerator – 120 watts for 4 hours, 18 minutes
  • 8 cu. ft. Freezer – 80 watts for 7 hours, 6 minutes
  • Home Alarm System – 5 watts for 129 hours
  • Jigsaw – 150 watts for 3 hours, 18 minutes

Multiple Charge Options

The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 allows you to charge it in numerous ways, including AC, DC, and even with jumper cables via the ports located on the back side. AC and DC cords are included, which you can safely store away when not in use via a built-in compartment located on the top. Pretty convenient.

Charging times vary depending on the method, or your solar panel wattage. If the battery is 100% depleted, it will take 24 hours using AC power, or 6-8 hours using a DC car charger.

Simple to Use, Crystal Clear Controls And Information

Sometimes generators and powerpacks tend to be a little intimidating, or look like some sort of electrical experiment. The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 has clearly marked controls, and a helpful battery gauge that keeps you informed on the battery’s status. On/off switches to both the battery pack and the AC outlets are all included in the same panel.

Very, Very Portable

Generators aren’t always the easiest to lug around, especially when they are higher on the power scale. The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 isn’t the lightest unit in the world, but it’s not the heaviest either. The 53.5 weight is made easier thanks to the sturdy, oversized wheels that make transporting the Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 easy on most any surface.

The removable extended handle is a big plus as well. Built-in handles on each side are included to help with lifting and carrying. You won’t have much trouble getting this thing from point A to point B.

Safety Features

Another issue that inferior generators have is the lack of any protection with the electrical current, which leaves your devices and appliances at risk. The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 comes equipped with high surge protection, as well as automatic over-temperature and overload shutdown, keeping both you, your unit, and your devices safe.

Limitations

The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 is a great product, but there are a few things that I didn’t like.

Only Two Outlets

I realize that this unit is more geared for powering a few bigger devices, but limiting the output to just two AC outlets seems a bit odd.

A third AC outlet would provide better flexibility, and a USB or DC outlet would give you more leeway in charging some smaller devices such as a phone or tablet, without having to commit to using half of the available outlets.

Xantrex 1500 Solar Generator

When you have 1350 watts of continuous power, you shouldn’t have to purchase a multi-outlet plugin to use with it.

Could Have a Bit More Power

At the risk of nitpicking, the 1350 watts of power is good, but that amount is kind of an in between amount compared to other units.

If you’re going to give it 1350 watts of continuous output, a few tweaks and a battery with a few more amp hours would put it in a whole new class, allowing it to power some larger appliances, and for longer.

Conclusion

The Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500 is the very definition of a portable generator unit.

While it may be limited in outlets, the sheer simplicity of the design and overall craftsmanship makes it a reliable unit that you can use at home for backup, or bring along with you for any number of outdoor activities. It’s hard to beat the Statpower XPower Powerpack 1500.
